Yanos sniffs a flower.

Yanos sniffs a flower.

Hi, My name is Joy Kim, and I have been riding at Concord for over a year.  I lease Yanos, and since I’ve been riding him, my technique has improved immensely. In the beginning, I could barely sit a trot, let alone keep a canter going for more than 15 seconds without breaking down. Through training with Mark and attending many shows, not only has my riding improved, but my sense of direction, alertness, equitation, as my connection with my horse has become so much greater than I had ever expected. Equestrian riding has gone beyond improving me physically, but it has greatly helped me improve mentally, such as flows, thinking ahead of time, as well as being aware and thinking more quickly when in the arena. I am very thankful to ride at Concord Equestrian Center with Mark, and  I couldn’t have asked for better people to be around me, let alone, a more incredible horse than Yanos.

Teaching My First Jumping Lesson

2009 July 1

This past weekend on June 27, 09  I gave my very first jumping lesson to Kelly Joyner!! It went very well!!!  Kelly rides with Patty, and while Patty was coaching her students who were showing over the weekend I got to help teach some of her riders. It was very Exciting!!! Kelly was riding Beau, who is new to our school.  Beau is an American Quarter horse and about 7 yrs old.  Kelly and Beau make a great team.  They both did very well.

True Friendship

2009 April 27

I’d like to share a moment that I witnessed last Tuesday.  One of our little girls named Claire, whose pony is Rocky; got to play with him in the turn out for the first time.  She and I watched him roll in the dirt and get all dirty like he always does.  He is a white and black pony but always walks out of the ring brown. Well on that day, Rocky only rolled once or twice and chose to play with Claire rather than being a silly pony who runs around playing by himself.  Claire walked over to him and started interacting with him.  He shadowed her every move in our small ring.  If she walked in a circle, he did.  Rocky stayed right by her side.  When Claire walked over a little jump, he followed.  Claire was thrilled to see how much her little pony loved her.  She was truly overwhelmed with joy to think that he would follow her everywhere like a little puppy.  It made me very happy to have witnessed this special moment.
